Error description

  • V4-V5,The Chamfer figuration is different
    SCENARIO:
    1. Launch CATIA V5.
    2. File/Open the model the provided model
    3. RMB on *Master and select Copy
    4. Select File/New(PART)
    5. Part1 is chosen and MB3
    6. Paste Special / CATIA SPEC
    RESULT:
Error message "Update Error for CHAM3, Chamfer.4
    (CHAM3) : [Sick Features : None. Message :
    Ribbon Computation : Impossible Relimitation"
occurs. The shape of the chamfer is not correct
after migration. One chamfer feature in V4 is
migrated as 4 chamfer features in V5
    EXPECTED RESULT:
    1. One chamfer feature in V4 should be migrated
as one chamfer feature in V5.

  • THIS APAR IS CONSIDERED AS A SUGGESTION
    FOR IMPROVEMENT FOR CATIA.

    .
    INCIDENT DIAGNOSIS
One V4 chamfer does not give one V5 chamfer but
    multiple chamfers.
    .
    DEVELOPMENT REQUEST JUSTIFICATION
The specs of V4 chamfer are different from the V5
chamfer. The V4V5 conversion takes each V4
edge, with its own chamfer parameters, and
creates one V5 chamfer on each V4 edge. Such V5
chamfer are "independant" features and, as a
consequence, for the IR, are not trimmed between
themselves. New development is required to group
the V4 edges which have the same chamfer
parameters into a unique V5 chamfer. Then, this
V5 chamfer featurewill be able to trim / relimit its
    internal surfaces and so on.
In the model with this APAR, the V4 chamfer is
made of 4 V4 edges with the same chamfer
parameters : because they have the same
parameters they can all be "grouped" into a unique
V5 chamfer (with a unique parameter set, applied
to all V5 chamfer edges). But this "grouping
analysis" of V4 edges according to their own
chamfer parameters needs new code development.
This is why the APAR has been closed as SUG.
However, if a V4 chamfer is made of 5 edges with
5 different parameter sets, it will be impossible to
group them in an unique V5 chamfer, and there will
    still be 5 V5 Chamfers.
This will be made available in R19 and V6R2010. NOT
    IN R18.
