Error description

  • PART: MIRROR FAILS WHEN THE PAD IS CREATED
    WITH REFERENCE LINE DIRECTION.
    .
    SCENARIO.
    1. Start CATIA V5R18 SP03.
    2. Open file TEST.CATPart.
    3. Create Pad. During creation of Pad, select
    Sketch.1 for selection of
profile and select Line.1 for reference of direction
    and specify 100mm
    for length.
    4. Select Pad.1 for Object to mirror and select
    Plane.2 for Mirroring
    element.
Result A:-Warning message appears. Then click
    Yes button in Warning
message popup window. Message of Update Error
appears and mirroring fails. This is the problem.
    5. Click cancel and close the Mirror definition dialog
    box.
    6. Delete the Pad and recreate it without the
    Reference line.
    7. Mirror the Pad about Plane.2. The mirror is
    performed without any error.
Error: Mirror fails when the Pad is created with
    Reference Line direction.

  • Incident Diagnosis.
Reference Line is created on YZ plane and Pad is
created with this Line as direction. When Mirror of
Pad feature is performed, a warning message is
thrown which states that the wireframe elements
would not be transformed. This implies that the
direction of Pad under Mirror would not be
transformed. It would still be the same Line.
Now, note that Mirroring Plane is created at an
angle 45 degrees to YZ plane. When user tries to
Mirror Pad feature with respect to this Plane, Pad
under Mirror would be created at 45 degrees to the
Plane i.e. 90 degrees to YZ plane. This makes the
direction of Pad under Mirror parallel to its sketch.
This causes an error being thrown "Impossible to
compute the geometry" and results in Mirror going
into Update error. Hence only at this specific value
of mirroring plane angle the mirror fails.
    .
When the user instead of Pad feature selects the
Partbody, in this case Mirror command only selects
the outer skin of the Current solid and not the only
Pad feature. And during any type of transformation
when a particular feature is selected its
specifications are also taken in account while when
complete or current solid is selected then none of
the features specifications are taken in account.
Hence in this case direction of the Pad is not the
Line but it is change to default that is Normal to
profile and the mirrored solid is created correctly.
    .
    Correct Application.
Change the angle for Mirroring Plane and Mirror
    would work fine.
