Error description

  • Scenario :
1- File / Open the CATDrawing file
2- Select the "Line Normal To Curve" icon.
3- Select the point in "Section cut A-A" View.
4- Select Line in "Section cut A-A" View.
    Result :
Line Normal result is not created on the basis of the
    selected point.
    Expected Result :

  • Incident Diagnosis
The result of the "Line Normal To Curve" command
    is not right.
Line Normal result is not created on the basis of the
    selected point.
    Correct Application
First of all, there are two curves: purple curve is an
arc of circle and blue one is a spline curve.
User tries to create a line normal to the blue spline
curve by selecting a point which is NOT close to this
    curve.
"Line Normal To" does not create automatically an
extrapolation curve allowing to find a mathematical
    solution. Consequently, when Sketcher solver
takes into account the added constraint schema,
the computed normal line will always stay inside
the "boundaries" of the spline curve.
Hereafter a scenario showing that there is no
mathematical solution which this selection point and
    this spline curve:
    1- Fix the selection point
    2- Fix the spline curve
3- Create the line normal to as specified in scenario
Normal line is not created near the selection point
4- Create a coincidence constraint between the
fixed selection point and the created line "normal
to" : "Normal to" line becomes inconsistent due to
the fact that no mathematical solution exists.
In addition, as described in the Sketcher
documentation - "Creating a line normal to a curve
    chapter":
Lines normal to a curve are created as close as
possible to where you clicked ON THE CURVE. You
will get better results if, before clicking the curve,
you try to position the line as perpendicular to the
    curve as possible.
To obtain the requested "normal to" line, user has
to create first a line or a circle to extrapolate
respectively in tangency or in curvature the spline
curve and then use this extrapolated curve taking
    into account Skecther's documentation
    explanations.
