Error description
FTA (Part) / Datum target Definition does not follow form of geometry . Process 1) Start CATIA : "V5R17SP3" . 2) Open the file : "xx98xx.CATPart" . Workbench : "FTA" . 3)Expand "Datums" in the tree. 4)Double click "Simple Datum.1(A)" in the tree. The "Datum Definition" window is opened. 5)Click "Add" button in the tree. The "Datum Target" window is opened. 6)Activate "Circular" . 7)Input "10mm" in the box. 8)Click "Fill1" in the tree. The "Datum Target" window . The "Datum Target" is created. . Problem1: The notation of "Datum Target" can be created with a circle although the associated Form is a rectangle. And the dimensions of a "Datum Target" are not reflected in the dimensions of a "Target Element". "Target Element" Type : Rectangular , Dimension: 40x40 "Datum Target" = Type : Circular , Dimension : 10 . 9)Click "Add" button in the tree. The "Datum Target" window is opened. 10)Activate "Rectangular". 11) Input "15mm" in the two box. 12)Click "Fill.2" in the tree. The notation of "Datum Target" can be created with a "Circular" although the associated Form is a "Rectangular". . Problem 2: And the dimensions of a "Datum Target" are not reflected in the dimensions of a "Target Element". "Target Element" = Type : Circular , Dimension : 55 "Datum Target" = Type : Rectangular , Dimension: 15x15 . Expected Result: The contents of a setting of "Datum Target" should be follow the Form of "Target Elements" (ex: Fill) . A : The Form of Target Element should be reflected in a setup of a Form of Datum target. 1.If "Target Element" is "Circular" ,"Datum Target" should be "Circular" and " Rectangular " . 2.If "Target Element" is " Rectangular " ,"Datum Target" should be "Circular" and " Rectangular " . .

Problem conclusion
THIS MODIFICATION WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE DOCUMENTATION DELIVERED WITH CATIA VERSION 5 RELEASE 19 GA LEVEL. Documentation Reference 3D Functional Tolerancing and Annotation User Tasks Creating a Datum and Datum Targets . MODIFICATION: In the 'Creating a Datum and Datum Targets' topic, added following information: You can select the geometry (which should be inside the geometry referenced by the datum feature). If selected geometry is a point or vertex, the three options are available to specify the form (point, circle, rectangle) and the size of the limited zone. If the selected geometry is a curve or a surface, the three options are disabled. This is because the selected curve or surface itself defines the form and size of the limited zone. . In the 'Creating Datum Targets', added following information: If the datum target is created on a point geometry then you can specify the form (point, circle and rectangle) and the size of the limited zone. Otherwise the options are disabled. . Additonal Information: The behavior is changed on R18SP05 and R19 GA. Hence the Documentation is updated in accordance with it on R19 GA. .
