• SCENARIO:

  1. Tools Options Infrastructure Product Structure
  ENOVIAvpm: 'Disable CATIAV5 VPM DB
  connection' is deactivated.
  2. Load a CATDrawing with its related CATPart via
  3Dcom/VPM into CV5
  3. CATDrw and CATPart are loaded once each and
  they are associativ
  4. Activate the option 'Disable CATIAV5 VPM DB
  connection'
  5. Load a CATDrawing with its related CATPart via
  3Dcom/VPM into CV5
  .
  NOTE : The loaded Part is no more associative.An
  Update of the Part is not recognized in the
  CATDrawing No update is needed.
  .
  6. Save modification in the Part to VPM DB
  .
  7. Reload the Drawing --> update is required.
  .
  8. Load Part with Edit Links
  .
  NOTE : Drawing and Part are associative again.
  .
  Result : Behaviour is different if the same is done
  with 'Disable CATIAV5 VPM DB connection'
  is deactivated.

• CORRECT APPLICATION:

  As explained in the documentation,
  CV5_VPM_DefaultServerAlias must be used and set to
  the current name of the connection :
  Database Connection Removal
  You can remove the database connection
  requiredwhen using CATIA V5 with VPM V4. To see
  how to do this, refer to the section "VPM
  Interoperability Administration" in Customizing
  CATIA/ENOVIAVPM
  Interoperability Settings in CATIA V5. This avoids
  any problems you might experience in terms of
  security and administration due to the
  initialization of such a database connection.

  Mapping definition remains available. When
  database connection is disabled, access to data is
  possible only if a VPM process is started.For
  UNIX, VX0SERV or VX0VPM must be available.For
  Windows, VX0SERV or the Portal with VPM NT started
  must be available.
  When the database connection is deactivated, the
  default alias name "VPM" is used for the current
  server. This can be set through the runtime
  setting CV5_VPM_DefaultServerAlias.
  This server alias is important when restoring the
  database connection. The new generated data will
  have stored this information. The server used for
  the database connection will be consistent with
  the server alias used.
