  MODIFICATION:
  At the end of the section "Create & Save
  Management with CATIA V5", the following
  information has been added:
  "When you import a CATPart into VPM via Create &
  Save, its Part number is modified in CATIA after
  the CATPart document is stored in VPM.
  If its Part number is Part1 for instance, the CATPart
  document stored in VPM will therefore have the
  Part number Part1.
  If you reload this CATPart into CATIA V5 using
  interoperability, the Part number will be changed
  on the fly during the load and you will see the
  name of the VPM Part in VPM, not Part1.
  But if you export the Part in a STEP file, the
  document exported will have Part1 as its Part
  number.
  If you get the file into the database without using
  interoperability, the document you get will have
  Part1 as its Part number."
