Error description

  • Scenario :
    1- Tools / Options / Equipement and Systems /
    Electrical Process Interfacing tab - Electrical iXF
    Data Repository - System Repository / set the
    name of the directory the xml file is located.
    2- Tools / Options / Equipement and Systems /
    Electrical Mapping tab - Catalog/Electrical objects
    mapping and select ElectricalParts.catalog
    3- File / Open CATProduct
    4- Go to Electrical Wire Routing Workbench
    5- Select 'Select External Systems'
    6- Make xml file Current System
    7- Go to Electrical Assembly Design workbench
    8- Select Manage Link icon
    9- Select the line with Splice and Splice1
    10- Select Place
    11- Select Internal Splices
    12- Select In Line
    13- Select Splice
    Result:
    Error window :
    Diagnosis : Internal Error Bad value returned
    Expected Behavior:
    Once the splice is selected in the catalog the user
    would be prompted to select a bundle segment to
    instantiate the internal splice in the geometric
    bundle.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • Electrical Assembly Design - Internal Splices can not be
    created within a geometric bundle with Manage Links icon
    Scenario :
    1- Tools / Options / Equipement and Systems /
    Electrical Process Interfacing tab - Electrical iXF
    Data Repository - System Repository / set the
    name of the directory the xml file is located.
    2- Tools / Options / Equipement and Systems /
    Electrical Mapping tab - Catalog/Electrical objects
    mapping and select ElectricalParts.catalog
    3- File / Open CATProduct
    4- Go to Electrical Wire Routing Workbench
    5- Select 'Select External Systems'
    6- Make xml file Current System
    7- Go to Electrical Assembly Design workbench
    8- Select Manage Link icon

    10- Select Place
    11- Select Internal Splices
    12- Select In Line

    Error window :

Problem conclusion

  • THIS PROBLEM WILL BE FIXED ON CATIA
    VERSION 5 RELEASE 18 GA level.
    NOTE THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL ALSO BE
    FIXED ON V5R17SP03.
    Incident Diagnosis
    Internal Splices can not be created within a
    geometric bundle. The data created was not
    proper. Hence an error was popping up
    which was difficult to interpret : 'Internal
    Error Bad value returned'.
    Correction Explanation
    Hence a user friendly error message was
    added : Definition of Internal Splice is not
    the expected one.
    Answer and By-Pass
    This new error message 'Definition of
    Internal Splice is not the expected one'
    appears on V5R17 SP3 and V5R18ga.
