  • LINEAR SIZE TYPE OF DIMENSION IS NOT
    CREATED TO THE 2 HOLES BY TOLERANCE
    ADVISOR
    .
    Setup of the options:
    1) Select"Tools" > "Options" by menu bar.
    =>"Option" dialog box is displayed.
    2) Select "Functional Tolerancing & Annotation" on
    the tree.
    3) Select "Tolerancing" tab.
    4) Activate the "Always try to create semantic
    tolerances and dimensions".
    5) Activate the "Always try to create semantic
    general tolerances on dimensions".
    6) Activate the "Non-semantic tolerance creation
    allowed".
    7) Activate the "Non-semantic dimension creation
    allowed".
    8) Click "OK".

    Scenario
    0) Start CATIA V5R16SP2
    1) Open the file : "T8390.CATPart".
    Workbench : "Functional Tolerancing & Annotation".
    .

    2) Click "Tolerancing Advisor" icon.
    =>"Semantic Tolerancing Advisor" dialog box is
    displayed.
    3) Select 1 face in the solid on the geometry area.
    (Please see the "T8390.ppt" we send.)
    4) Select 1 face in the solid by "Ctrl Key" on the
    geometry area.
    (Please see the "T8390.ppt" we send.)
    =>"Semantic Tolerancing Advisor" dialog box is
    expanded.
    =>"Tab / slot" is displayed in the "Geometric
    feature type" cell.
    =>"Distance Creation" button exist in the dialog
    box.
    5) Click "Distance Creation" button.
    =>"Limit of Size Definition" dialog box is displayed.
    6) Click "OK".
    =>"Semantic Tolerancing Advisor" dialog box is
    displayed.
    7) Click "Close".
    =>"Linear Size" type of dimension is created.
    (This is the right behavior.)

    8) Click "Tolerancing Advisor" icon.

    displayed.
    9) Select 1 hole in the solid on the geometry area.

    Correct Application
    ISO standards do recommend to restrict the use
    toleranced dimensions to feature of size.
    FTA is supporting the following feature of size
    dimensions:
    - Diameter of cylinder, circle or sphere
    - Distance between 2 planar parallel faces
    - Distance between 2 cylidrical parallel faces that
    have the same diameter
    - Cone angle
    - Angle between 2 planar secant faces
    .
    For feature of size made of 2 components, FTA is
    explicitely identifying the feature of size in
    the "Geometric feature type" field of the
    Tolerancing Advisor.
    The "Tab/Slot" type is for feature of size made of 2
    planar parallel faces.
    The "Angular Tab/Slot" type is for feature of size
    made of 2 planar secant faces.
    The "Cylindrical Pin/Hole" type is for feature of size
    made of 2 cylidrical parallel faces that have the
    same diameter.

    ISO standards allow also creating toleranced
    dimensions between 2 geometrical elements that
    do no correspond to a feature of size.
    These cases are supported by the Tolerancing
    Advisor thru the "Related" Geometric feature type.
    User has to use this type in the case that
    corresponds to the current incident description.
