Error description
Abstract: DOCUMENTATION : "DISTRIBUTING CATIA V5 ON WINDOWS" DOCUMENTATION NEEDS TO BE UPDATED Online Documentation reference: CATIA Infrastructure Installation Guide / Distributing code / Distributing CATIA Version 5 on Windows / Accessing the Software from a Thin Client / option 11b with UNC paths Description: Customer has written the following information: "I did now install V5R11SP03, which shows the same problem symptoms: The TOOLS / UTILITY window can be started successfully, but it does not contain any entries, instead only an empty field is displayed. Another company informed me, that they have the same problem symptoms. Then I tried: 1. Install V5R11 GA on the server. 2. Install V5R11 SP03 on the server. 3. Use the Environment Editor in the server to create a global environment with UNC path names. 4. Connect the server drives to the client via the network. 5. Start CATIA / TOOLS / UTILITY = Window appears, but no utility offered in it (error). Expected result: Utilities (like DownwardCompatibility, ExtractModelFromSequential, etc.) should be displayed. 6. Install CATIA and SP on the client. 7. Create a new global environment on the server with drive letter path names (C:\Dassault Systemes\B11\...), instead of UNC paths. 8. Start the on the client installed CATIA with the new global environment on the server with command: \\De00ca1\BATB11_SP3 \intel_a\code\bin\CNEXT.exe -admin -env CRH_ADM_R11_SP3 -direnv y:\crhslg\admin\envs (Where y: is a from the server mounted network drive.) 9. Start CATIA / TOOLS / UTILITY = Window appears and lists all expected utilities (=expected result)" Customer also beleives that, the above written scenario will only work (i.e. successfully display the different entries in CATIA / TOOLS / UTILITY), if (at least) one of the following three points are additionally (to the documented steps) ensured: 1) Either both the filename and directory path of the server's global Environment file (as created during the installation) have to stay identical. (This can be achieved by installing CATIA into the same UNC path on the server, as the client will later see it. In this case no new global Environment file needs to be created. Instead the server's Environment file can unmodified be used for the clients.) (Or it can be achieved, by removing the initial global Environment and the creating the new desired global Environment with the same name and in the same directory.) 2) Or the files in the installation directory ...\intel_a\EnvName.txt and ...\intel_a\EnvDir.txt have manually been updated, to correctly refer now to the new on the server created global Environment filename and directory path (as the client sees it). 3) And/or CATIA is not called via ...\intel_a\code\bin\CNEXT -env ... -direnv ... (or for admin mode additionally: -admin), but instead via ...\intel_a\code\bin\catstart -env ... - direnv ... (or for admin mode additionally: - run "CNEXT -admin") None or these three points are described in above mentioned documentation reference. Therefore not very experienced persons will not perform any of them and achieve the problematic result with the empty UTILITY panel. Hence, The documentation needs to be updated with prior consultation with the developers. .
