Error description

  • PROBLEM:

Electrical Harness Assembly -> Local Slack ->
Ignore Local Slack removes tangency vector from
    bundles
    .

Customer is using CATIA V5R10SP4 on Windows
    2000.
Searched RETAIN and no direct hits found.

    SCENARIO:

    1. Unzip the supplied PKZIP file
    2. Open the CATProduct (this will load into
    EHA)
    3. Check the Bundle Segment Definition
    (PMR00384-BNS1) Route Definition
to see 2 points with tangents (Point.1/Face.3 and
    Point.2/Face.4)
    4. "Exit" icon to return to EHA
    5. "Add Local Slack to Bundle Segment Portion"
    icon and select the Bundle
     6. Select "Ignore Slack" followed by OK
    7. Warning message issued:
At least one tangent is defined on the
portion of the bundle segment you are trying to
ignore slack. In order the slack be ignored, do you
want the tangent(s) to be removed.
NB : this operation is irreversible.
      8. "Yes", as message states, will remove the
    tangents

    9. Repeat steps 2. and 5.
     10. Select "Add Slack" and "Slack Definition" of
    0mm followed by OK
    11. The local slack is removed and tangency is
    retained.
    .

Why does "Ignore Slack" remove tangency
when "Add Slack" with 0mm retains tangency?

On "Ignore Slack", the tangency should not be
    removed.
This implies that "Ignore Slack" does not work
    correctly.
    .

    .

Local fix

Problem summary

  • After ignoring slack in manage slack command,
    tangency vectors extremity are removed.

Problem conclusion

  • This behaviour is normal. Indeed, if tangency
vectors were not removed the build of the curve
would be KO, since the algorithm has to straighten
the curve between the two points.
The behaviour is different if you add slack with 0
value : no length is added to the current length of
the curve whereas when you ignore slack the curve
is bended within the portion of the curve
