HD02437: SHAPE DESIGN : IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE SPLIT (OR TRIM) OPERATIONS WITH THE SURFACE

Error description

• Scenarios:

  Scenario.1:
  1. Open to read the provided CATPart
  2. Workbench to set up at Generative Shape Design
  3. Click "Split" icon.
  4. Select "Join.13" as "Element to cut".
  5. Select "Join.12" as "Cutting elements".
  6. Click "OK" button.
  7. Result:  The split functions normally..
  8. Click "Split" icon.
  9. Select "Join.12" as "Element to cut".
  10. Select "Join.13" as "Cutting elements".
  12. Result: Error message is displayed.
      Although "Join.13" can "Split", it cannot Split
  "Join.12". It is not normal.
  .
  Scenario.2:
  1. Open to read the provided CATPart again
  2. Change workbench to Generative Shape Design
  3. Click "Intersection" icon.
  4. Select  "Join.12" and "Join.13" and then click "Ok"
  5. Click "Split" icon.
  6. Select "Join.12" as "Element to cut".
  7. Select "Intersect.124" as  "Cutting elements".
  8. Result: Error message is displayed. Close the window
  9. Click "Extrude" icon
  10. Select "Intersect.124" as input and the Y-axis as
  direction of extrusion, click "OK".
  11. Click the split icon
  12. Select "Join.12" as element to cut and "Extrude.1" as
  cutting element
  12. Result: OK
  .
  Additional Information
  It is a model created only by native CATIA V5.
  V4 Data are not used.
  .
  Even if one performs a trimming operation of "Join.12" and
  "Join.13", the same "Error message" is displayed.
  .
  Since Intersect.1 cannot be creating normally, do Split and
  Trim become an error?
  That Intersection.1 is not created normally wants to know
  how it is related to Split or Trim.
  .
  "Split(or Trim)" should be made normally.
  .
  

Local fix

Problem summary

•  INCIDENT DIAGNOSIS:
  The SPLIT and TRIM operations cannot be executed correctly
  with 2 join surfaces.

Problem conclusion

• THIS PROBLEM WILL BE FIXED ON
    CATIA VERSION 5 RELEASE 11 GA level
  NOTE THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL ALSO BE FIXED ON V5R10SP4.
   TECHNICAL EXPLANATION FOR THE CORRECTION:
   The problem was due to the management of the intersection
  at the degenerated edge extremity. It caused the evaluation of
  a point on the curve which this point does not belong to.
  .
  The by-pass is to select join.13 first.
  .
  The SPLIT and TRIM operations can work correctly now.
  .
