Error description
Scenario: -------- 1. Open to read the provided CATPart in Wireframe and Surface Design 2. Choose the command Trim with the element Revolute.1 (in Rotationsfldche Open body) and Join.19 ====> An error message displays and impossible to trim. . But the Trim Command works properly when choosing circular Surfaces in same heigth (See Trim-radial) but when choosing Surfaces in different heigth in the bottle you become always an error message. . Here is a more detailled scenario as follows: 1. Trim-radial.with "CircPattern.5" has been successfully created by the customer 2. To isolate the problem, Make " Open_body.20" as current delete CircPattern.5 color Join.19 blue color "Surface.1" and "Surface.2" with different colors delete "Join.19" ==> Make a test with "Insert/Operations/Trim" on "Surface.1" and "Revolute.1" and "Surface.2 and "Revolute.1": it is OK . ==> Create "Join.19" with "Surface.1" and "Surface.2" new (whithout check connexity) Try to make a "Insert/Operations/Trim" with "Join.19" and "Revolute.1" ===> no success -> Element 1: Revolute.1 -> After "Join.19" has been selected, instead an entry for Element.2: . Update Error: ------------- The splitting or trimming bodies defines areas for which the operator cannot decide whether they must be kept or not. . -> After OK , "Element 1: Join.19", "Surface.1" and "Surface.1" has been highlighted. Left beside the command line "Click to change the portions to be kept then press OK or Cancel" was shown. -> Pushing "Other side of element 1/2" caused update error (above). .

THIS APAR IS CONSIDERED AS A SUGGESTION FOR IMPROVEMENT FOR CATIA. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SUPPORT DEPARTMENT IN ORDER TO OPEN A REQUIREMENT FORM. JUSTIFICATION FOR DEVLOPMENT REQUEST: The trim with surfaces takes in account the orientation of different operandes to determine the parts to get in the result. But the Joint.9 has 2 parts which are not connex and which are oriented in the opposite way (you can check it in making an extract with propogation at point on each part then making an offset of this extract: the 2 offsets show the different direction. It is why the error message simply shows that Join.9 gives contradictory informations regarding the parts of Revolute.1 to keep or to remove. . However, since R10 level, there is a new option in the new mode of selection (KEEP/REMOVE) where the user can select manually the parts to keep or to remove for the result. . ANSWER AND POSSIBLE BY-PASS: There are possible by-passes: - To make extracts of the connex parts of Join.9 and to make seperately trims of Revolute.1 with these parts. - To make an invert orientation with one of two parts of Join.9 .
