Error description

  • To log trace informations, we activated the environment
    variable:
    .
     set CNEXTOUTPUT=C:\temp\trace.log
    .
CATIA V5 and ENOVIA DMU Navigator stores their trace
informations into this log file. OK
    .
    Problem:
While running CATIA V5 we could not show into this file and
cannot read the trace informations. On UNIX is this no
    problem.
    .
    Workaround:
Stop CATIA V5 and read trace log file.
    Start CATIA V5 again.
    .
We need this functionality to develop some CAA programs.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • output trace file cannot be read during a CATIA session on NT.
It is possible on UNIX plateform.

Problem conclusion

  • THIS PROBLEM IS PERMANENT RESTRICTION IN CATIA
    .
The file named through CNEXTOUTPUT var must be kept opened
by CATIA process as long as the process lives.
In this case, under windows, another process cannot have read
    access to same file.
    .
For development purposes, we suggest you to use set
CNEXTOUTPUT=CONSOLE before running CATIA. Then a console window
is created by CATIA where all the cout , printf,... are
    displayed.
    .
It is not perfect if you eventually want to keep the
traces in a file. In this case, what we do is that we
copy/paste console window console into a file, what is
acceptable until a few thousands lines.
    .
May we remind you that in a standard windows interactive
application, couts and printfs are simply discarded |
    .
An alternative that you may try is the use of OutputDebugString
or AfxTrace (not directly TRACE because _DEBUG is not defined
under mkmk and you are recommended not to define it).
    .
In this case, the traces are displayed in the debugger output
    window.
