Error description

  • DESCRIPTION :
    The CATPart (imported from CATIA V4) cannot be meshed.

    STEP BY STEP SCENARIO:
    - Open "FEM02_culasse_V5R7SP3.CATPart".
    - Start/Analysis & Simulation/Generative Structural Analysis
    - Static Analysis : OK.
    - In Finite Element Model/Nodes and Element
    - Double click : OCTREE 3D.1 : Part1
    - In the panel : OCTREE 3D Mesh.
        Global sag : 2,5 mm,
        Element type : Linear.
    - Local : local size, ADD.
     Local Mesh size :
     Supports : Select the faces to apply the entity :
      4 faces (higher).
     Values : 2,5 mm ou 1 mm ==> OK.
    - Select Compute icon.
    - Mesh only ==> OK.
    ==> ERROR : OCTREE 3D.1 mesh : Part1 can't mesh its
    corresponding part
    or assembly connection check the existence and the validity
    of this associed datum.

Problem summary

  •  INCIDENT DIAGNOSIS:
    THE PART CANNOT BE MESHED

Problem conclusion

  • THIS PROBLEM IS PERMANENT RESTRICTION IN CATIA

     TECHNICAL EXPLANATION FOR THE RESTRICTION:
    The V4 volumic part contais 2 faces with geometrical
    problems (auto intersection of edges). The problem can be
    seen when those only two faces are migrated from V4.

    Those two connected faces are *FAC5073 and *FAC5038 and
    the problem is not detectable when migrating from V4 to
    V5.

     BY-PASS:
    The bypass is to redesign the two faces with CATIA V4 or
    V5 by re computing the intersection of the two support
    surfaces : *SUR4241 and *SUR4223
