Error description

  • Hello DS,
    Please investigate this problem.
    .
    <AB> smoothing curve trouble(depends on magic-words)
    0) Set Magic-word on your system (See <Remarks> )
       and Start CATIA
    1) Open Styling_ex4-5-6.CATPart (GSD workbench)
    2) Click "Curve smooth" icon(or Insert->Operations->curve
    smooth)
         Sel Boundary.1 as "Curve to smooth"
         Sel Healing.2(yellow surface) as "Support"
         keep another option with default value (See
    31029_1.jpg)
    3) Click OK
    ====> smooth curve is not on support surface (See
    31029_2.jpg)
    .
    <Remarks>
    This problem is depend on magic-word : L_CURVESMOOTH_ALS = 1
    .
    To set this magicword, open your system property and
    Environment tab,
    key-in this word and value of 1.
    (See 31029_3.jpg)

     MAXIMUM DEVIATION VALUE WHEN SMOOTHING A BORDER EDGE.

Problem conclusion

  • THIS MODIFICATION WILL BE INCLUDED IN CATIA DOCUMENTATION
    DELIVERED WITH CATIA VERSION 5 RELEASE 8
    NOTE THAT DOCUMENTATION WILL ALSO BE INCLUDED IN V5R7SP06.

     DOCUMENTATION REFERENCE:
     MANUAL ===> CATIA Generative Shape Design and Optimizer
     CHAPTER ===> Basic Tasks
     CHAPTER ===> Performing Operations
     CHAPTER ===> Smoothing Curves
     PAGE    ===> N/A

     MODIFICATION:
    In task "Smoothing Curves" step 5 now reads:

    "5. Check the Maximum deviation button to set the
        allowed deviation between the initial curve and
        the smoothed curve.
        When this option is checked, the resulting smoothed
        curve fits into a pipe which radius is the Maximum
        deviation value and the center curve is defined by
        the selected curve."

    Furthermore, a tip has been added at the end of the task:

    "When smoothing a curve on support that lies totally or
     partially on the boundary edge of a surface or on an
     internal edge, a message may be issued indicating that
     the application found no smoothing solution on the
     support. In this case, you must check the Maximum
     deviation button from the Parameters tab and enter
     a value smaller than or equal to the tolerance at which
     two elements are considered as being only one (0.001mm
     by default) to keep the result on the support."
