Error description

  • ABSTRACT: WHEN PERFORMING AN ANALYSIS THE CATIA RETURNS
    "GENERIC NAMING GRAPH ERROR"

Abstract: EPMR: Cannot perform a FEA on a V5R4 sheetmetal part
    .
Operating System: WindowsNT Intel V4 SP4
    .
    Problem Description:
    I have here a V5R4 sheetmetal part.
When I try to perform a Finite element analysis using
Generative Part Structural analysis (GPS), I get an
    error: "Generic Naming graph error"
It was working in V5R4 SP3.

    - Open supplied Sheet Metal part within V5R6.
    - Apply any material (ex Aluminum)
    - Clamp 1 on 2 faces on the side and apply a load to the surface
in the middle. You cannot click the surface
    - Start computation and "Generic Naming Graph Error" is
    returned.
    .
A work around is to extract external surfaces of the part and
copy/paste into a new part. Close the surfaces using Close
Surface. Although this works it is not acceptable because the
associativity is broke to the Sheet Metal part.
    .

Problem summary

  • INCIDENT DIAGNOSIS:
WHEN PERFORMING AN ANALYSIS THE CATIA RETURNS GENERIC
    NAMING GRAPH ERROR

Problem conclusion

  • THIS PROBLEM WILL BE FIXED ON
CATIA VERSION 5 RELEASE 8 GA level.
NOTE THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL ALSO BE FIXED ON V5R7SP05.

     TECHNICAL EXPLANATION FOR THE CORRECTION:
One of the face had a bad "surface stamp"

     ANSWER AND POSSIBLE BY-PASS:
The part had to be repaired and was sent with the pmr.
The code also had be modified since there was a problem
with the generation of "surface stamp".
