Error description

  • Scenario:
    --------
1- Read the provided model (verify that the visualisation is in
    NHR mode)
2- Go to KINEMUSE / USE LAWS / VARIATN
3- Enter values 360,1 (simulation startes for a cycle).
4- Take the CPU time and ELAPSE time.
5- Do NO and begin again the step 4 in SHADING, or click on
ABSOLUTE, enter 0 and get back to VARIATN. Repeat step 4.
6- Take the CPU time and ELAPSE time in shading.
Play the scenario on IBM 43P-150 GXT3000P, SUN U60 and HP C240.
    STATIONS TIMES
                             ....NHR .. SHADING

    HP C240 17 20 25 31
    .
The SUN is the slowest, the SHADING mode is most speed than NHR
    mode.
This incident is not refer to a particular model.
    .
So, an apar was opened (HC77155) and closed PRS with the
    following solution:
The problem is linked to PHIGS/XGL soft.
The by-pass is using PHIGS/OpenGL with following command
export PHIGSOGL=1, just before running CATIA.
    .
Then, under solaris 2.8 and the performance are better in NHR
    than in shading.
But, the performance under solaris are always deplorable than
    under AIX.
    .
Here are the results of my tests on 422 under solaris 2.8:
    STATIONS TIMES
                               NHR SHADING
                         CPU ELAPSE time CPU ELAPSE
    time
    SUN U60 24 31 109 117
    IBM 43P-150 9 10 18 18
    .
Note: the PHIGSOGL variable has been set to 1 under the two OS
version (2.7 & 2.8), but it seems to had no impact on the
    performance.
    .

Local fix

Problem summary

  • INCIDENT DIAGNOSIS:
The KINEMUSE function performance is deplorable and worse in SUN
    system than in AIX system.
    .

Problem conclusion

  • THIS PROBLEM IS PERMANENT RESTRICTION IN CATIA

     TECHNICAL EXPLANATION FOR THE RESTRICTION:
It is a problem with PHIGS depending on the SUN system.
    .
     BY-PASS:
This problem has been being submitted at SUN to provide possible
solutions. It is not a problem with CATIA.
    .

Temporary fix
