HC83984: GENERATIVE STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS - "SEARCH IMAGE EXTREMA" DOES NOT FIND ALL THE EXPECTED LOCAL EXTREMA

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• "Search Image Extrema" does not work properly. Local extrema are
  not all automatically selected in a part.
  1. For a given part, select GPS workbench.
  2. Assign restraints, loads and compute results.
  3. Search for local extrema points for von Mises stress or
  strain energy gradient. Indicate that a large number of local
  extrema should be selected.
  Result:  Not all of the areas of locally high stress or locally
  high strain gradient are selected.
  

Local fix

Problem summary

•  INCIDENT DIAGNOSIS:
  Generative Structural Analysis - SEARCH IMAGE EXTREMA does not
  find all the expected local extrema.
  

Problem conclusion

• THIS PROBLEM WILL BE FIXED ON
    CATIA VERSION 5 RELEASE 8 GA level.
  NOTE THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL ALSO BE FIXED ON V5R6SP7 and on
  V5R7SP4.
  
   TECHNICAL EXPLANATION FOR THE CORRECTION:
  Extrema were sorted by curvature and not by value. Some extrema
  were sometimes found when there was a big difference of value
  between nodes but the value might no have been so high. The
  value is now taken into account.
  
   ANSWER AND POSSIBLE BY-PASS:
  Increase the number of local extrema to be searched.
  In this specific case, all the expected extrema are found when
  using 25 as value for the number of local extrema.
