HC60812: DMU : IMPOSSIBLE TO READ CGR FILE BY OPEN MENU SINCE V5R3 SP2.

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• ABSTRACT: impossible to read cgr file by the menu OPEN since
  V5R3 SP2.
  
  SCENARIO:
  .Open any CATProduct
  .Save it as CGR (it works fine)
  .Now, try to open the same CGR.
  ---> The message  License not granted for selected configuration
       is displayed.
  
  This behaviour is known : it has been decided that from SP2 the
  customers will not have the possibility to read CGR files from
  OPEN menu.
  .
  But, it is still possible to load the cgr files inserting them
  with the Insert Components function.
  .
  This is why, whatever the license, the customers are not able to
  read a CGR file.  But it is not written, and the error message
  is not clear.
  
  EXPECTED RESULT :
  At least, an appropriate message to warn the end-user.
  

Local fix

Problem summary

•  INCIDENT DIAGNOSIS:
  DMU : OPEN - FILE ON CGR IS NO MORE POSSIBLE SINCE V5R3 SP2.
  An error message is displayed explaining that licenses are
  causing the problem.
  

Problem conclusion

• THIS PROBLEM WILL BE FIXED ON
    CATIA VERSION 5 RELEASE 4 GA level
  
  The SP5 on V5R3 will reporte the correction.
  
   TECHNICAL EXPLANATION :
  Opening a cgr file in DMU with FILE / OPEN FILE is forbidden.
  The cgr file is created to be used in teh cache or as a preview
  of the models we want to load. It cannot be used as a normal
  model as it is only a geometric representation.
  This file must be opened with the Import command.
  It is why the new warning message is :
  Invalid format for Open. Use Insert->Existing Components.
  .
  1. From Product Structure workshop : INSERT / EXISTING COMPONENT
  / Select *.cgr ==> Thsi adds CGR to existing product structure.
  2. From Part Design workshop : FILE / NEW FROM / Select *.cgr.
  This creates new part with CGR.
