Error description

  • CURVE1+BITGT+SPHERE GIVES A BAD RESULT FOR SOME GENERATED CURVES
    .
    SCENARIO:
    --------
    (1) FILE+READ the customer's model containing 2 surfaces
    (2) Select CURVE1+BITGT+SPHERE
SELECT BLUE *SUR1 AND SELECT GREEN *SUR2.
KEY IN 3,3 FOR RADII AND PRESS ENTER.
====> BAD BITANGENT CURVES (6 CURVES) ARE CREATED.
EXPECTED RESULT: TWO SMOOTH (NOT TWISTED) BI-TANGENT CURVES
                     ARE CREATED.
THE RESULTING CURVES ARE NOT OF GOOD QUALITY. GO TO THE
SURF1+CURVE FUNCTION AND SELECT EITHIER OF THE LONGER CURVES
GENERATED BY THE CURV1+BITGT+SPHERE, THE RESULT IS
NON-TANGENT ARCS . THESE CURVES ARE NOT OF USABLE QUALITY.
USING SURF1+CURVE THE MESSAGE NON-TANGENT ARCS IS STILL
    SHOWN.

Comments

  • THE PROBLEM WAS SUBMITTED ON :
        CATIA VERSION 4 RELEASE 1.7
    .
THIS PROBLEM IS NOT REPRODUCIBLE ON :
CATIA VERSION 4 RELEASE 2.4 REFRESH 1 GA level
    REASON:
It is normal that there are 6 curves solution.
The small curves correspond also to bitangency curves.
Nevertheless, there is a small tangent discontinuity within
curve (0.6 degree). To correct, it we need to improve the
smoothing algorithm. It can lead to many regressions.
The SURF1/CURVE works with very strict tolerances.
If you want to generate an equivalent surface, you can use
a newer function BLENDSURF. This function is more tolerant :
BLENDSURF/BTGT LIM (in order to calculate the bitangency
curves), with the connect option POINT.
SURF1/CURVE operation was impossible because of a diagnostic of
    poor quality.
A partial correction has been provided in V423-R1 level.
