ANS1592E (RC-362) Failed to initialize SSL protocol

Troubleshooting


Problem

Connection via dsmadmc or dsmc to IBM Spectrum Protect server can fail with the error "ANS1592E Failed to initialize SSL protocol" on IBM Spectrum Protect Backup-Archive Client Version 8.1.11 or 8.1.12.

Symptom

When IBM Spectrum Protect Backup-Archive Client Version 8.1.11 or 8.1.12 is only installed on Windows machine, the connection to IBM Spectrum Protect server via dsmadmc or dsmc works fine. However, after the IBM Spectrum Protect for Databases Version 8.1.9 or lower version is installed on the same Windows machine, connection via dsmadmc or dsmc can fail with following error:

ANS1592E Failed to initialize SSL protocol.
ANS8023E Unable to establish session with server.
ANS8002I Highest return code was -362.
