If a B/A-Client or admin user is not registered on the IBM Spectrum Protect server and starts a server connection, misleading message 'ANS1357S Session rejected: Downlevel client code version' is shown in the client's dsmerror.log, or the admin console log.
Diagnosing The Problem
Connect the IBM Spectrum Protect server with a node which is not registered on the server.
The connection will fail with the misleading error messages on the client side ANS1025E and ANS1357S
Client dsmerror.log shows:
ANS1025E Session rejected: Authentication failure
ANS1357S Session rejected: Downlevel client code version
The server actlog will show the correct error message:
ANR0422W Session 111111 for node NODE (AIX) refused - node name not registered.
Resolving The Problem
This is working as designed. On an unauthenticated connection, the server will not reveal if a user exists or not.
The message in the server actlog clearly states that the account does not exist.
On the IBM Spectrum Protect server perform a 'REGISTER NODE'.
