Problem
ANR8939E The adapter for tape drive
Symptom
Volumes cannot be read on a Windows 2008 R2 system, attempts to read the volume fail with the error:
ANR8939E The adapter for tape drive DRIVE1 (mt1.0.0.1) cannot handle the block size needed to use the volume.
Cause
The problem has been observed when using Adaptec SCSI HBA's, model numbers
29320ALP, 29320LPE and 39320A with Adaptec HBA driver version 7.0.0.12. Other models may be affected also.

Windows 2008 R2
Diagnosing The Problem
A trace taken on the Tivoli Storage Manager server using the PVR ADDMSG flags will simply show the ANR8939E

Resolving The Problem
Using the Adaptec 7.0.0.8 HBA driver level, which, while not listed as supported for Windows 2008 R2, has resolved these errors.
