Problem

When logging into a BNT Virtual Fabric 10 Gigabit Switch Module for IBM BladeCenter, Option part number 46C7191, or a BNT 1/10 Gigabit Uplink Ethernet Switch Module for IBM BladeCenter, Option part number 44W4404, the user is presented the following prompt: Select Command Line Interface mode (ibmnos-cli/iscli): The user cannot choose "ibmnos-CLI". Only iscli can be chosen. This is seen running both firmware versions 6.8.1 and 6.8.6.

The following example uses the BNT Virtual Fabric 10 Gigabit Switch Module.

Solution

This behavior will be corrected in a future release of the switch firmware.

The target date for this release is scheduled for second quarter 2012.

Workaround

Choose from one of the following two (2) workarounds:

Workaround 1

Force the use of ibmnos-CLI at switch boot. In the switch Graphical User Interface (GUI):

Select Configure at top of screen.
Expand the menu in the left window pane.
Select Config/Image Control from the expanded menu.
In the main windowpane (on right) select IBMoperating system CLI for "Next CLI Boot Mode Selection."
Select DISABLE for "Prompt for selectable boot mode."

Workaround 2

Type "IBM" (instead of ibmnos-CLI) at the Select Command Line Interface mode (ibmnos-CLI/iscli): prompt.
