Abstract
I need help running AIX commands in a PowerPath environment.

Issues with our commands in a Powerpath environment should be directed to EMC/DELL.
EMC/DELL has their own steps to create backups when hdiskpower is the rootvg.
Here are some pointers to EMC/DELL documentation related to Powerpath:

If you require IBM AIX support's assistance in an Powerpath environment, you may be asked to remove the Powerpath driver. Running hdiskpower on your rootvg can impact commands like, mkvg, savebase, bosboot, lku etc which can cause them to fail. In order for the commands to function again, you will need to uninstall the Powerpath driver and reboot your system.
If you can not deinstall the driver, we encourage you to open a case with EMC/DELL to debug why said command is failing in their Powerpath environment.
