ADIC Scalar 10K Configuration Information for IBM Spectrum Protect Server ( formerly TSM )

Preventive Service Planning

Abstract

Configuration Information for ADIC Scalar 10K

Content

Beginning with Version 7.1.3, IBM® Tivoli® Storage Manager is now IBM Spectrum Protect™. Some applications such as the software fulfillment systems and IBM License Metric Tool use the new product name. However, the software and its product documentation continue to use the Tivoli Storage Manager product name. To learn more about the rebranding transition, see technote 1963634.

Notes:

1. Library capacity
648 drives 16000 slots

2. Barcodes are supported. Scalar 10K does not recognize a cartridge without a valid barcode label. Always put a readable barcode label on a cartridge that will be used in this library. Without valid and readable barcode labels, Tivoli Storage Manager will not support this library.

3. Device identifications and firmware levels used during validation

ADIC Scalar 10K
Library ID : ADIC Scalar 10K --- Firmware : 100A
Drive ID : IBM Ultrium-TD1 --- Firmware : 0CE1
Drive ID : IBM Ultrium-TD2 --- Firmware : 4AP0

ADIC Scalar 10K with IBM Ultrium 3
Library ID : ADIC Scalar 10K --- Firmware : 300A
Drive ID : IBM Ultrium-TD3

ADIC Scalar 10K with IBM Ultrium 4
Library ID : ADIC Scalar 10K --- Firmware : 320A
Drive ID : IBM Ultrium-TD4 --- Firmware : 75X2

ADIC Scalar 10K with IBM 3592 J1A
Library ID : ADIC Scalar 10K --- Firmware : 300A
Drive ID : IBM 03592J1 --- Firmware : D310_50F

4. ELEMent=AUTODetect in the DEFINE/UPDATE DRIVE command is supported.

5. Scalar 10K is available with the following drives.

IBM LTO-1, LTO-2, LTO-3, and LTO-4

IBM 3592 J1A
  • The IBM Tivoli Storage Manager device driver version 5.2.4.4 or 5.3.1.1 is required for Scalar 10K with IBM 3592 J1A drives.
  • The IBM device driver is required for IBM 3592 drives and can be downloaded from ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/storage/devdrvr.

Sony AIT-2, AIT-3

SDLT 220, SDLT 320

6. When the drives are WORM-capable, to check in WORM media, CHECKLabel=Yes in the CHECKIN LIBVOLUME command is required.

IC47875 UNABLE TO DEFINE TAPE DRIVE PATHS FOR ADIC LIBRARIES
This APAR affects ADIC libraries with SDLT 220, SDLT 320, and AIT drives.

Library and drive may require different minimum Tivoli Storage Manager levels. Therefore, ensure that both library and drive hardware are supported. See "Supported Devices for AIX, HP-UX, Solaris and Windows" or "Supported Devices for Linux" for minimum supported version levels and platforms for these devices.

More information regarding device configuration is available in the Tivoli Storage Manager Administrator's Guide, which can be found in the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager information center.
