Adding a Prefix Telephone Number to the Fax Configuration

Troubleshooting

Problem

Adding a prefix telephone number to the Facsimile Support fax card configuration.

Resolving The Problem

With some phone lines, it is necessary to dial a prefix number before the fax number. For instance, dialing a 9 to get to an outside line or a country dialing a code. How is the prefix number added to the fax card configuration?

To check for and add a prefix telephone number to the fax card configuration, you should do the following:

1.To determine if a prefix telephone number is already configured, use the DSPPFM QUSRSYS/QAFFCFG command and specify each controller name for the member parameter (for example, FAXD01). If one is configured, positions 100-109 on the third line of the configuration will list the prefix telephone number.

Use the PRTFAXCFG command to generate a spooled file with the all of the fax controllers and their current fax card configuration. Use the WRKJOB command, then option 4 to Work With Spooled Files to locate the report after running the command. This report does not include the prefix telephone number, but it does contain the other fax card settings, such as if the card is set to both send and receive faxes, Error Correction Mode (ECM), etc., which are needed when performing step 4.
2.To add the prefix telephone number, on the operating system command line, type the following:

ENDFAXSPT FAXD(*ALL) ENHSRV(*YES)

Press the Enter key. Allow the QFAXSBS and QFQSBS subsystems to end.
3.On the operating system command line, type the following:

RMVFAXCRD FAXD(FAXD01) FAXCRD(*ALL)

Press the Enter key. Repeat this step for each controller, for example, FAXD02, FAXD03, and so on if you will be adding a prefix telephone number to multiple fax cards.
4.On the operating system command line type the following:

ADDFAXCRD FAXD(FAXD01) FAXCRD(FAX1) PREFIX('9+')
**Where PREFIX is the necessary prefix number.

Fill in the other parameters as needed based on the configuration report generated using the PRTFAXCFG command in step 1.

Press the Enter key. If necessary, repeat this step for each controller.
5.On the operating system command line type the following:

STRFAXSPT FAXD(FAXD01) ENHSRV(*YES)

Press the Enter key. If using multiple controllers (FAXD), include them in the STRFAXSPT command also.
