Problem
Data Protection for SQL backups can fail with the message below, depite having the correct SQLSERVER name. ACO5402E The Virtual Device Set could not be created.
Cause
The error can occur when the user attempting the backup is not included in the Security Setting for the "Create global objects" in the "User Rights Assignment" of the Local Security Policy.
Diagnosing The Problem
A service trace will report the following:
VDS2_CREATEEX( TDPSQL-0000056C-0000 ) failed, hResult = 0x80070005
Exit CBackupDb::run(), rc = 1912, msg = (null)
Resolving The Problem
In the Control Panel, under Administrative Tools, select the Local Security Policy and check the 'User Rights Assignment'. Ensure that the group and or user performing the backup is within the Security Setting for the 'Create global objects' field. Add the user/group to this policy accordingly.
