Troubleshooting
Problem
This document describes how to access the partition virtual control panel functions from the HMC. Virtual control panel functions are used for certain service functions such as accessing the dedicated service tools (DST) panel.
Resolving The Problem
Version 7 and Later
In HMC Version 7 and later, partition virtual control panel functions are available using the Serviceability > Control Panel Functions task for the partition.
In the navigation panel, expand Systems Management > Servers, then click on the desired server. In the work panel, select the desired partition. In the task panel, expand Serviceability > Control Panel Functions. Click on the desired function, then click OK on the confirmation panel.
For further information on using HMC Version 7 and later to force DST, refer to document N1018885, HMC Version 7: Forcing DST for a Partition on an HMC-Managed System
For information on how to force an IBM i Main Store Dump (MSD), refer to document N1015896, Performing a Partition Main Storage dump (MSD) on an HMC-Managed Server.
Version 6 and Earlier
In HMC Version 6 and earlier, partition virtual control panel functions are available from the Partition Functions menu within Service Focal Point. From the HMC GUI, select Service Focal Point, and then select Service Utilities from the task area.
If the HMC manages multiple systems, select the correct System Processor based on machine type, model, and serial number.
Select Selected > Operator Panel Service Functions.
Note: This task will fail if there are no IBM i5/OS partitions on the managed system.
Select the appropriate partition and the desired partition panel function from the Partition Functions menu.
