Preventive Service Planning
Abstract
Does IBM Rational ClearCase support the use of solid state disk (SSD) technology?
Content
What is SSD technology?
Abbreviated SSD, a solid state disk is a high-performance plug-and-play storage device that contains no moving parts. An SSD emulates a hard disk drive using solid-state memory to store persistent data. Because SSDs use memory for data storage, it is often a lot faster with lower disk access times. SSDs are most effective for server applications and server systems, where I/O response time is crucial. Data stored on SSDs should include anything that creates bottlenecks, such as databases, swap files, library and index files, and authorization and login information. With respect to ClearCase, there are great performance benefits to using solid state disks. The downside of using SSDs is that they often have limited storage capacity and are very costly.
Declaration of Support
ClearCase has been tested with SSDs and is fully supported.
