Answer

About the OFTP2 Service

The Odette File Transfer Protocol (OFTP) is one of themost established protocols for automated standardized data exchangebetween trading partners. OFTP was created by Odette the EuropeanAutomotive standards body and is a standard within business sectorssuch as Automotive Engineering and Transportation.

The latest version of OFTP is version 2 known as OFTP2. Thisversion is mainly intended for secure data exchange over the publicInternet where security is guaranteed by the use of security certificates.

The IBM? OFTP2service facilitates the exchange of data between two business partnerswho use different technologies to transfer data.

About Certificates

Security certificatesare sold and issued by specialized companies known as CertificationAuthorities (CAs). Security certificates are optional for OFTP2 butOdette members have agreed to accept a number of CAs that meet a listof specific criteria. Odette publishes a list of approved CAs andinformation is available on www.odette.org/tsl/tsl_oftp2.xml.

Ifyou wish to use security certificates you will need to exchange certificateswith your trading partners and with IBM.

About Third-Party Client Software

In orderto connect to the IBM OFTP2service you will need to use OFTP2 client software from a third party. The following Odette link has a list of products that have passedinteroperability tests:

forum.odette.org/OFTP/oftp2/oftp2-interoperability-tested-software

Youwill need to set up the following items in your OFTP2 client software:

  • SSID (assigned by Odette)
  • SFID

The SSID and the SFID that you should set for IBM are listed on thequestionnaire you receive from IBM.

Connectivity Considerations

You should considerthe following items when setting up your OFTP2 client software tocommunicate with the OFTP2 service:

  • Firewall

Your firewall needs to be adapted for OFTP2 Port 3305(OFTP) plus 6619 (TLS). Ports must be open in both directions.

  • DNS address (fixed) or IP address

Odette recommends choosinga fixed IP address together with a DNS name (for example oftp.supplier.com)instead of an IP address. Odette does not recommend using dynamicDNS Services.

  • Public IP address and the link to certificates

The DNS nameshould be listed in the certificate.

  • Filename Length

The maximum filename length for OFTP2 is 26characters.
