Question & Answer
Which versions of IBM Rational DOORS clients are compatible with DOORS database servers?
You are upgrading DOORS, but not on every machine, and need to ensure different versions of DOORS will work together.
Major Version Compatibility:
DOORS is not backwards compatible with older major release versions
- Major DOORS versions ( 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) are not compatible
- Minor versions ( 9.1, 126.96.36.199, 9.5, 9.6 ) are compatible
You can not use different major versions to work together.
For example, the major version is 9.x
This means you can not use DOORS version 8.x clients with DOORS version 9.x database server; or use DOORS version 9.x client to connect with DOORS version 8.x database server.
A message will display indicating a database protocol version mismatch.
Minor Version Compatibility:
All minor versions of a release are compatible (read and connect) with the same major version of a database server and vice versa.
For example, the major version is 9.x and all minor versions are 9.0, 9.1, 9.2, 9.3, 9.4, 9.5, 9.6
- DOORS 9.0, 9.1, 9.2, 9.3, 9.4, 9.5, 9.6 clients can connect to and read data from a DOORS 9.0 database server
- DOORS 9.0 clients can connect to and read data from a DOORS 9.0, 9.1, 9.2, 9.3, 9.4, 9.5 , 9.6 database server
Note: depending on the components you have installed there may be version restrictions for compatibility. For example DOORS Web Access (DWA) 188.8.131.52 requires you use DOORS 184.108.40.206, but you may not use 220.127.116.11. Refer to the system requirements specification for the product version compatibility.
