Abend-AID does not capture CICS dump

Troubleshooting

Problem

BMC AMI DevX Abend-AID (formerly BMC Compuware Abend-AID for CICS) does not produce a dump when a transaction abends in CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS). Your CICS log contains message CEE3250C The system or user abend abend-code was issued. But, the capture of the dumps does not occur.

Symptom

CEE3250C The system or user abend abend-code was issued

Cause

Language Environment (LE) runtime option TERMTHDACT is not correct.

Resolving The Problem

Change the LE runtime option TERMTHDACT to TERMTHDACT(UADUMP). This will allow CICS to process the dumps, and allow Abend-AID to produce a dump for the abend.

You can use the CLER transaction in CICS to display the current Language Environment runtime options. You can also modify a subset of the options, including TERMTHDACT.

Refer to topic Defining runtime options for Language Environment in the CICS TS documentation for a list methods you can use to set the Language Environment runtime options in CICS. These methods are also documented in more detail in the z/OS documentation topic Specifying Run-Time Options under CICS .

Note Tuning with Language Environment in the CICS TS documentation warns that Using TERMTHDACT(DUMP), TERMTHDACT(TRACE), TERMTHDACT(UADUMP), or TERMTHDACT(UATRACE) can create a significant overhead in a production environment. These settings can cause large amounts of traceback and Language Environment dump data to be written to the CESE transient data queue.
