A6000266 when adding virtual disk to ASP on i client partition hosted by VIOS.

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document describes a problem where the client LPAR hangs with SRC A6000266 when you are adding a disk to an ASP on a i client LPAR hosted by VIOS.

Symptom

A6000266

Cause

If a virtual disk has been set up for 520 byte sectors is added to the ASP of an LPAR where the other disks are not set up for 520 byte sectors it can cause the LPAR to hang on SRCA6000266.

Diagnosing The Problem

The current value of the allow520blocks setting can be determined using the lsdev command in VIOS:

$ lsdev -dev vios0 -attr

attribute      value description                            user_settable

 allow520blocks yes    Allow 520-byte blocks where applicable True

Resolving The Problem

If a customer encounters the problem they can do a force remove of the drive from the HMC or IVM to release the LPAR hang.

There will be a PTF put out for this problem but the above circumvention will still apply if the customer is in the hang condition and doesn't have the PTF applied.
