908: Attempt to connect to database server failed. ISAM error: record is locked.

Symptom

A -908 error along with ISAM error Record is locked error encountered trying to access a remote database.

Resolving The Problem

Possible Solutions:

  • Deactivate Firewall
  • Setup O/S correctly
  • incorrect machine host name set in the sqlhosts file.
  • Duplicated entries in /etc/hosts file
