Resolving The Problem

RETAIN tip: H184402

Symptom
After installing the qla3022ip driver on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 9 and using YaST 2 to configure the QLogic network devices, the default configuration name is incorrect causing the system to not see the configuration.

Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM eServers:
  • IBM eServer BladeCenter LS20, Type 8850, any model
  • IBM eServer BladeCenter HS20, Type 8678, any model
  • IBM eServer BladeCenter HS20, Type 8832, any model
  • IBM eServer BladeCenter HS20, Type 8843, any model

The system is configured with the following option(s):

  • 1GB iSCSI TOE Expansion Card, Option part number 26K6487, FRU part number 26K6490.

The following NOS(es) are affected:

  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 x86

Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

Please see the compatibility page for more information:

http://whttp://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/

The Networking Device Driver for the 1GB iSCSI TOE Expansion Card is affected.

The system has the symptom described above.

Solution
When YaST is used to configure the networking function of the adapter, the configuration name is identified as eth-Bus-PCI- 0000:xx:xx.x.

Use YaST to delete the current configuration and reconfigure the adapter with a name based on the MAC address of the card.

The correct name should be of the format: eth-id- xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx where xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx is the MAC address on the card.

The MAC address can be found on the card or by checking the Hardware VPD tab in the management module Web interface.

This will need to be done for both ports of the adapter card.
