Symptom

Entering keystrokes in a Serial over LAN (SoL) session while the blade is powered off causes the SoL session to drop.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM eServers:

  • an IBM eServer BladeCenter HS40, type 8839, any model.
  • an IBM eServer BladeCenter HS20, type 8678, any model.
  • an IBM eServer BladeCenter HS20, type 8832, any model.
  • an IBM eServer BladeCenter JS20, type 8842, any model.

The Management Module firmware for the BladeCenter is affected.

Solution  

The system is working as designed.

Workaround

Wait until the blade is powered up before entering keystrokes during the SoL session.

Additional information

Entering keystrokes in the SoL session while the blade is in power down state causes the SoL session to drop. This only happens if powered off through the Web interface.
