Resolving The Problem

RETAIN tip: H181977
Symptom
---
There is no option to configure the IP address on the Ethernet Switch Module itself, but the option does exist on the Management Module through its normal interfaces.
Affected configurations
---
The system may be any model of the following IBM BladeCenter servers:
- a BladeCenter T, Type 8730
- a BladeCenter T, Type 8720
The IBM BladeCenter 4-Port Ethernet Switch Module Firmware Device Driver for the BladeCenter is affected.
Solution
---
Firmware (available 31 December 2004) will be added to the IBM BladeCenter T 4-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch Module that will allow the user to configure the switch's IP Address.
Workaround
---
The IP Address on this interface must be configured from the Management Module. To configure the IP address on the Management Module, go to the Web interface of the Management Module, select the I/O module link. Next, select Management and then select the bay number of the switch.
Additional information
---
On some switch modules there is an option to allow a user to set the IP address on the switch interface to communicate with the Management Module on the switch module itself. This is in addition to the option that provides the same function on the Management Module. On the IBM BladeCenter T 4-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch Module, this is no such option. However, the option still exists on the Management Module and instructions in the Workaround explain how to use this option.
