Resolving The Problem
Installing ARCServeIT version 6.6 (for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0) for use with the IBM 3502 Tape Library:
- Select SCSI Adapters from the Control Panel.
- Verify that the driver Adaptec 294xU2/295xU2/395xU2/AIC-789x PCI SCSI Controller (NT4.0) is loaded and shows Quantum Powerstor L200/L500 and Quantum DLT7000.
- Select Tape Devices and load the Quantum DLT Device Driver Version 1.08 (or higher). The latest driver is located at: http://www.quantum.com filename: d18nt4i.exe - Device Driver for Windows NT 4.0-Intel Platform Version: V1.8 or later
- Reboot the server, then verify that this driver has started.
- Click ARCserveIT Products.
- Select By Product.
- Click to highlight ARCserveIT V6.6 for Windows NT Workgroup Edition, and click Install.
- Click Next at the Welcome screen.
- Click I agree at the Software License Agreement.
- Click Complete Installation, then Next at the ARCserver screen.
- Click Next at the User Information screen.
- Select install directory, (use default) then click Next.
- Select ARCserve Databases, Standard selected, then click Next.
- Verify information, then click Finish.
- Wait while the system displays the message "Copying files..."
- The "ARCserve System Account Information" screen will appear.
- When the option "Start ARCserve automatically", do not select this, as it may slow performance. Click Ok.
- Click Ok to acknowledge "ARCserve successfully installed".
- Click Cancel when TNG Framework starts to install.
- A License error may occur, select not to show up.
- Select ARCserve Pro Pack Option V6.6 from the bottom of the screen, then click Install.
- Restart the server after the installation completes.
- Insert and start the ARCserveIT 6.6 CD.
- Select Tape Library Option 6.6, then click Install.
- Click to Assign the available devices when the "ARCserve Library Setup" screen appears, then click Next.
- Ensure Library Quick Init is not selected, then click Next.
- Finish the installation.
- Click to start ARCserve Manager. (You may get a message stating that the Prune Database started successfully).
- Click Device Management from the Quick Access window.
- Click on the Wizard tab, then click Device Wizard.
- Verify the product name, version, build #, and description of ARCserve and that the Tape Library Option has been installed.
- Click on the Device tab, then click Animation.
- Verify that the tapes installed are showing (Updating). (You may have to close this out and re-open it).
- Once (Updating) is complete, it should write a signature on the tape and assign it a tape number. You should hear the tapes being ejected and inserted automatically when they are finished.
- If during the test backup with the unique tape ID you get the error message "3855 Unable to position media. (MEDIA=media_name, EC=media_error_code) (Backup Failed!)", then right click the tape and click erase, then click quick erase plus, then click Ok. When the unique ID is gone and it shows "blank media", perform the backup again. The Backup should now complete successfully.
- The tape software installation is complete.
