Abstract
Download the latest firmware for the Nortel Layer 2/3 GbE Switch Module (GbESM) for the IBM BladeCenter
Download Description
Warning: Check prerequisites before installing this firmware.
Prerequisites
If updating from a 1.0 or 1.1 version to 1.4 or 1.5 review the details of the two update changes before updating the switch. These details can be found below in the Change History for 1.3.2.0.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE TO USER: (REPEATED FROM THE 1.5.1 RELEASE)
The flash module that stores the operational firmware used in the L2/3 GbESM was discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available. The replacement is not fully compatible with the existing module. For this reason, support for the new flash module has been added to this software release while retaining support for the original module. This added support is required as the replacement flash module is merged into manufacturing.
This software release prevents loading any firmware without the new support into a switch manufactured with the new flash module. IBM recommends that users upgrade to this new firmware as soon a possible, in preparation for the use of any new or field replacement switches manufactured with the new flash module.
If it is not practical to update to 1.5.4.0 at this time, additional firmware versions containing the new module support will be provided.
These releases are:
an equivalent version for 1.4.2.0 an equivalent version for 1.3.2.0
Switches built with the new flash modules, can be identified in several ways:
- Hardware VPD (Vital Product Data) on the Advanced Management Module (AMM) console screen displays:
a) A new prefix for the FRU Serial Number. The YJ1JXF prefix is changed to YK5120 or YK5220.
b) Hardware Revision = 2 for a YK5120 switch with the new flash, Hardware Revision = 3 for a YK5220 switch with the new flash.
- The FRU (Field Replaceable Unit) label on the switch contains:
a) the YK5120 or YK5220 Serial Number prefix is on the 11S label line, the prefix to the six digit serial number.
b) an EC Number of L05893B or L05893C.
Switch identification can be viewed via the AMM console, the switch CLI (Command Line Interface) or the switch BBI (Browser Based Interface) console interface. SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) polling can also be used to identify the version of the switch.
If support for earlier firmware versions is required, please use the information in Section 6 and contact IBM Support. Although IBM recommends that users upgrade to the latest firmware, IBM and Blade Network Technologies will work together to respond to user concerns and user requests on a case by case basis.
Version 1.5.14.0 (Released, June 2010)
Enhancements:
- None.
Changes:
- Added the altSwApplyComplete, altSwSaveComplete, altSwFwDownloadSucess, and altSwFwDownloadFailure SNMP traps to the Enterprise MIB. (39988)
- Automatically clear all user-configured passwords when reverting to the factory-default configuration. (40306)
- Increased the maximum pre-authentication banner to 2048 characters. (40455)
- Added the "no prompting" option to isCLI (equivalent of "verbose 0" in BladeOS CLI). (40865)
Fixes:
- The first 5 (reserved) SNMPv3 view names could erroneously be changed via isCLI. (39125)
- The Global commands “apply”, “save”, “diff”, “revert”, and “verbose” would become unavailable after setting CLI “verbose” level to 0 ("Quiet"). (39720)
- When a port in a trunk went down, all ARP entries learned over the trunk were flushed, causing traffic disruption in other ports of the trunk. (38984)
- The altSwTrapDisplayString OID was missing from all Gateway-related SNMP traps(altSwDefGwUp, altSwDefGwDown, altSwDefGwInService, and altSwDefGwNotInService), and the descriptions were erroneously appended to the ipCurCfgGwAddr OID. (39986)
- The User-configured admin password was lost when upgrading from release 1.5.9 or older to 1.5.11. (40203)
- When a port in a VLAN went down, the ARP entries for all other ports in the VLAN were flushed, causing traffic disruption in all other ports in the VLAN. (40330)
- OSPF-specific commands would not take effect if a configuration script was copy/pasted in isCLI mode. (40453)
- IP Multicast traffic was not forwarded properly if the connected port was a Cisco "router" port. (40454)
- Configuration scripts created in older releases were not accepted in newer releases. (40181, 40727)
- Configuration scripts created on copper-port switches were not accepted in fiber-port switches and vice versa. (40728)
- IGMPv2 join and leave messages were being sent without the IP Router Alert option as per RFC 2236. (40648)
- Crash occurred when receiving self-originated LSAs where the Advertising Router and Link State ID specified in the packet were different. (41734)
The two update procedure changes introduced with Firmware version 1.3 continue to apply with Firmware version 1.5.
Updating from 1.2, 1.3, or 1.4 levels to 1.5 is straightforward. No RESET is required between image downloads. Only a final RESET is required to activate the new image.
If updating from a 1.0 or 1.1 version to 1.4 or 1.5 review the details of the two update changes before updating the switch.
These details can be found in the CHANGE HISTORY file for 1.3.2.0.

Change history
Version 1.5.11.0 (Released, March 2010)
Enhancements:
- Added the ability to configure multiple Management VLANs in support of BladeCenter Chassis Internal Network (CIN) and Serial over LAN (SOL) features. (21361)
- Added support for sending SNMP Traps when temperature thresholds are exceeded. (30182)
- Added support for creating passwords up to 128 characters long.
(32919)
Changes:
- Changed the ifName object in the IF-MIB to always return the actual port name instead of the port alias. (32603)
- Changed the syntax of the “failover trigger 1 amon admin-key xxx” isCLI command to “failover trigger 1 amon adminkey xxx”. (34884)
Fixes:
- unable to set half-hour time zones (34910)
- incomimg Gratuitous ARPs caused the switch to stop forwarding L3 traffic. (37063)
- unable to create static Multicast MAC entries in the FDB. (37304)
- in isCLI mode, switch crashes when pasting an OSPF-specific configuration to the console. (35320)
- unable to manage the switch due to inability to fall back to the secure backdoor login if the configured Radius or TACACS server was unreachable (36515)
- if Loopback Interfaces are created while IP forwarding off, then IP forwarding is turned back on, routes do not get installed. (36546)
- certain selection actions on the BBI produced no result. User has to click on the adjacent folder icon. (36689)
- configured Management IP address is lost when changing from the BladeOS CLI to the isCLI. (31844)
- memory issue while handling SNMP GetRequests for MAC entries in the Layer-2 FDB table. (32485)
- Gateway Per-VLAN configuration files cannot be applied when files were downloaded from an FTP/TFTP server. (32341)
- inability to monitor a tagged port on an untagged port (port mirroring) (32490)
- AdventNet MIB browser intermittently fails to pull in the sysDescr object using SNMPv3 (33124)
- isCLI "copy running startup" command does not automatically save to the "backup" location. (34277)
- First packet of an IP-multicast (IPMC) stream is discarded and not forwarded. (37511)
- IPMC entries are erroneously modified due to a related event (e.g. IPMC stream is stopped by the sender; link-down occurs on the port connected to the upstream multicast router). (37621)
- Mrouter destination entry is erroneously deleted when a trunk port connected to the upstream multicast router goes down. This results in IPMC traffic no longer being forwarded to the mrouter. (37856)
- High CPU utilization, and discarded packets due to packets received with last three octets of multicast addresses equal to “0.0.5”. (37888)
- Removed the restriction that VLAN 4095 needs to contain at least one internal port. (38293)
- Static Multicast MAC Addresses are lost upon reboot of the switch.
(38736)
- SNMP gateway trap is sent with Wrong OID when the gateway is brought down then up. (39051)
