5962, 162 POST errors with CD-ROM installed - IBM IntelliStation, Netfinity 3000

Troubleshooting


Problem

The system will POST with errors 5962 and 162 "Configuration change has occurred". In the POST Configuration Setup Utility System Summary menu, Hard Disk Drive 2 will be tagged with a triangle and "Not installed".

Resolving The Problem

Symptom
The system will POST with errors 5962 and 162 "Configuration change has occurred". In the POST Configuration Setup Utility System Summary menu, Hard Disk Drive 2 will be tagged with a triangle and "Not installed". This error shows that the CD-ROM is no longer installed in the system.
 

Affected configuration
This problem occurs in the following systems with a 40X CD-ROM preinstalled, however, the symptom can occur with any CD-ROM when the power connector is not connected firmly.

IBM PC 300GL (6267, 6277, 6287)
IBM PC 300PL (6862, 6872, 6892)

Solution
Firmly connect the power to the CD-ROM drive by gently rocking the connector in place.
