Console hardware requirements

You need to understand the hardware requirements to configure a Console.

If you want to use an 5250 Console local console on a network (LAN), you need to install the LAN adapter for Operations Console according to your model. To find out the specifics of your system, you can use the Display Hardware Resources (DSPHDWRSC) command. Table 1 shows the supported cards for LAN connectivity.

Notes:
  1. LAN console is supported on Virtual Ethernet Adapter (VLAN). A virtual Ethernet adapter is defined on Host Ethernet Adaptor (HEA) or using VIOS.
  2. LAN console is not supported with line descriptions which are configured for Ethernet Link Aggregation.
