Planning for the IBM N series storage system

Successful installation of the IBM® System Storage® N series storage system requires careful planning. You are the most valuable resource in site planning because you have the most detailed understanding of how the N series storage system and devices attached to it will be used.

Site preparation is the responsibility of the customer and this document will provide basic information required to do this preparation. You may want to also enlist the help of your Field Technical Support Specialist, marketing representative, or other support personnel.

Your marketing representative is available to ensure that the hardware and software that you have chosen will meet your needs.

Planning for the IBM N series storage system consists of these main tasks:
  1. Understanding the features and functions of the N series storage system and selecting the proper feature codes (FCs) for your business as described in IBM N series hardware features and IBM N series storage system software features.
  2. Planning for the physical environment where the equipment will operate. This planning step includes the physical space, electrical, temperature, humidity, altitude, air flow, service clearance, and similar requirements as described in Site planning.
  3. Planning for cabling depends on the adapter feature codes (FCs) selected as described in Cable planning.
