Planning IPv6 configuration
Listed here are the hardware and software requirements and the prerequisites for configuring IBM® i for IPv6.
Hardware and software requirements
To configure IPv6 on an Ethernet line, your system must meet the following requirements:
- IPv6-capable router, if you want to send IPv6 traffic beyond the immediate LAN
Configuration prerequisites
You must have the following items configured before you can configure IPv6:
- You must have IPv6 started. Complete the following steps to verify
whether the IPv6 stack has been started:
- On the command line, type NETSTAT and press Enter to access the Work with TCP/IP Network Status menu.
- Specify Option 10 (Display TCP/IP stack status) and press Enter.
- At the IPv6 stack status prompt, ensure the value is Active.
- If the value of IPv6 stack status is not Active, complete the
following steps to start IPv6:
- On the command line, type STRTCP (Start TCP/IP command) and press F4 (Prompt) to access the Start TCP/IP menu.
- At the Start IPv6 prompt, type *YES, and then press Enter.
Note: You do not need to end TCP/IP in order to start IPv6 at a later time.
