Record Identification and Control Entries

Output specifications for an externally described file are optional. Entries in positions 7 through 39 of the record identification line identify the record format and determine under what conditions the records are to be written.

• Positions 7-16 (Record Name)
• Positions 16-18 (External Logical Relationship)
• Position 17 (Type – Externally Described File)
• Position 18 (Release)
• Positions 18-20 (Record Addition)
• Positions 21-29 (External File Record ID Indicators)
• Positions 30-39 (EXCEPT Name)
