System requirements

System requirements for IBM Spectrum Archive™ Single Drive Edition.

The following operating systems and hardware platforms are supported:

Linux computers
  • Supported operating systems
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Servers (RHEL) 7.2 (x86_64)
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Servers (RHEL) 7.3 (x86_64, and ppc64le)
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Servers (RHEL) 7.4 (x86_64, and ppc64le)
  • Supported hardware
    • x86_64, or ppc64 (POWER8 or later, in Little Endian mode) processor.
    • 1 GB of available RAM for each 1 million files that are stored on a tape.
    • Serial Attached Small Computer System Interface (SAS) or Fibre Channel host bus adapter (HBA) supported by IBM® LTO 5, LTO 6, LTO 7, and LTO 8 tape drives.
    • Fibre Channel HBA supported by IBM TS1140, TS1150, and TS1155 tape drives.
    • USB 3.0 interface that is supported by IBM USB LTO 5 and LTO 6 tape drives.
Apple Mac computers
  • Supported operating system
    • OS X 10.11 El Capitan (64-bit)
    • macOS 10.12 Sierra (64-bit)
    • macOS 10.13 High Sierra (64-bit)
  • Supported hardware
    • Mac Pro (Intel).
    • x86_64 processor.
    • 1 GB of available RAM for each 1 million files that are stored on a tape.
    • SAS HBA provided by ATTO Technology, Inc.
    • Fibre Channel HBA.
    • Any Mac that has a USB 3.0 interface that is supported by IBM USB LTO 5 and LTO 6 tape drives.

Windows

  • Supported operating systems
    • Windows 8.1 (64 bit)
    • Windows 10 (Anniversary update or later)
    • Windows Server 2012 R2 (64-bit)
    • Windows Server 2016 (64-bit)
  • Supported hardware
    • x86_64 processor.
    • The Secure Boot option of the PC must be disabled.
    • 1 GB of available RAM for each 1 million files that are stored on a tape.
    • SAS or Fibre Channel HBA supported by IBM LTO Ultrium 5, LTO 6, LTO 7, and LTO 8 tape drives.
    • Fibre Channel HBA supported by IBM TS1140 tape drives.
    • USB 3.0 interface that is supported by IBM USB LTO 5 and LTO 6 tape drives.
Note: Write-once, read-many (WORM) media are not supported.
