System configuration worksheet

You must provide information before the storage can be discovered and used by the system.

General setup information

You can download the system configuration worksheet by clicking .

Complete the following table to record the general required setup information for a new system:

Table 1. General setup information

Do you want to set up Call Home?
Do you want to set up remote support assistance?

Call Home and remote support assistance information

Complete the following tables for your facility so that you can set up Call Home and remote support assistance:

Table 2. Call Home and remote support assistance contact information
Contact information
Contact name
Email address
Phone (Primary)
Phone (Alternate)
Machine location
System location information
Company name
Street address
City
State or province
Postal code
Country or region
Optional proxy server IP addresses for remote support assistance
Note: Remote support assistance normally uses the service IP address for each node canister. You only need to configure a proxy server if you use a firewall to protect your internal network and do not wish to configure the firewall to allow communications for remote support on ports 22 and 443.
IP address 1 Port 1
IP address 2 Port 2
IP address 3 Port 3
IP address 4 Port 4
IP address 5 Port 5
IP address 6 Port 6
Note: Phone (Primary) corresponds to the phone number of the primary contact person. Phone (Alternate) corresponds to the phone number of the person to contact if the primary person cannot be reached.

If systems exist in multiple locations and a single, central site phone number is used for all systems, a phone extension can be used. Extensions identify the physical location of each system. In the United States and Canada, the format for the phone number is xxx-xxx-xxxx aaaaa, where x represents the 10 digits of the phone number, and aaaaa represents the extension (the extension can be up to five alphanumeric characters that uniquely identify the location of the system). In countries other than the United States and Canada, the phone number can be up to 19 characters long. Be sure to use the dashes in the phone number and a space before the extension when you enter the phone number.

Complete the following table to record the email configuration that is needed to support Call Home:

Storage Insights

Are you already using IBM® Storage Insights? IBM Storage Insights is a free cloud service that monitors the health, capacity, and performance for all IBM block storage and virtualized external storage on a single pane of glass, helping clients understand and plan storage capacity and performance. When support is needed, Storage Insights helps speed resolution by simplifying opening tickets, automating log uploads to IBM, and providing configuration, capacity, and performance information to IBM technicians. IBM Storage Insights Pro is a subscription service that provides longer historical views of data, more reporting and optimization options, and supports IBM file and block storage together with EMC VNX and VMAX.

For more information on IBM Storage Insights, see https://www.ibm.com/us-en/marketplace/analytics-driven-data-management.

Important: You must have an IBM account to enroll in the IBM Storage Insights service. To obtain an IBMid, see the following website: https://www.ibm.com/account/reg/us-en/signup?formid=urx-19776&target=https%3A//myibm.ibm.com/
To configure Storage Insights, provide the IBMid of the administrator of your new system in Table 4.
  • If the administrator does not yet have a Storage Insights account, they will receive an email after you install the new system, describing how to get started with Storage Insights.
  • If the administrator is already a Storage Insights user and you are creating a new system, the administrator will add the system IP address of the new system to their Storage Insights dashboard.

Encryption information

If you ordered feature code (#ACE3 or #ACE4) - Encryption Enablement Pack, then you will need the following information because it is best to enable encryption before volumes are created:

Important: Encryption must be licensed on all controller enclosures before clustering them together.
  • Do you want to use USB flash drives to manage the keys ?
  • Do you want to use a key server to manage the keys ?
Note: You can use both USB flash drives and key servers together.
  • If you want to use a key server you must provide the following information for up to 4 key servers:
    • Name
    • IP address
    • Port
    • SSL certificate (you will need to give this to the SSR e.g. via email)
  • If you want to use more than one key server:
    • Decide which key server is the primary key server.
    • Will you use a common SSL certificate with multiple key servers ?
You also establish an access code for Remote Support Assistance, if you select Remote Support Assistance.

Complete the following table to record the configuration values needed to support encryption:
