Creating mapping specifications

You create mapping specifications that consists of source-to-target mappings. You can use any existing, shared metadata column or any term from the business glossary as sources or targets. You can also create candidate columns and terms within specifications.

Before you begin

You must create a project or be authorized to work within a project before you can work with specifications.

About this task

Mapping specifications are used to document business requirements. A mapping specification contains mappings. Create a specification and then create source-to-target mappings by using the mapping editor. Each mapping can consist of more than one source and more than one target.

You can refine mappings by using transformation rules. Transformations specified for a mapping apply to all the sources and the output of the transformations apply to all the targets. If you want to use several different transformations, but with the same set of sources within a mapping, then you must create multiple mappings with different transformations that use the same set of sources.

You can then generate reports. Or, you can generate jobs that can be further modified and enhanced in the Designer client.

Procedure

  1. Select a project in the Mapping Specifications list and, from the Task list, click New Mapping Specification.
