Backing up IBM InfoSphere Information Server components

You can back up the components of IBM® InfoSphere® Information Server so that you can recover your data in the event of hardware failure or other system issue.

Before you begin

Because you need to stop the services before backing up the system, you need to view all active user sessions and disconnect those user sessions.

Before you can stop the services, you need to determine whether any jobs are running and if any jobs are scheduled to run then pause those scheduled jobs.

For information about backing up DB2® databases, see Backup overview in the DB2 10.5 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows in the Knowledge Center. For other supported database systems, refer to your vendor documentation.

Procedure

  1. Place IBM InfoSphere Information Server in maintenance mode.
  2. Stop the InfoSphere Information Server services and IBM WebSphere® Application Server services. For more information, see Administering IBM InfoSphere Information Server and IBM WebSphere Application Server services.
  3. Back up the metadata repository database.
  4. If InfoSphere Information Analyzer is installed, back up the analysis databases.
  5. Optional: If InfoSphere DataStage® and QualityStage® are installed, back up the InfoSphere DataStage and QualityStage operations database. However, this step is not necessary. Instead, if you want to continue monitoring data after a restore, you can re-create the operations database when you restore InfoSphere Information Server components.
  6. Optional: If InfoSphere QualityStage is installed, back up the results database. However, this step is not necessary. Instead, if you want to continue to refine or develop match specifications after a restore, you can re-create the Match Designer database when you restore InfoSphere Information Server components.
  7. Optional: If InfoSphere QualityStage is installed, back up the Standardization Rules Designer database.
  8. Optional: If the Data Quality Exception Console is installed, back up the exceptions database.
  9. Back up all system elements that are listed in System elements and databases that require backing up.
  10. Back up external files or libraries that are used by InfoSphere DataStage and QualityStage jobs.
External files are data sets, file sets, sequential files, hashed files, and other similar files that run InfoSphere Information Server tasks, such as InfoSphere DataStage jobs. External libraries can be custom-written C++ functions that are called by the parallel engine.
  11. Start the InfoSphere Information Server services and WebSphere Application Server services. For more information, see Administering IBM InfoSphere Information Server and IBM WebSphere Application Server services.
