How does a list import affect program entrance frequency?

When list updates are imported to a database that is associated with a program, when do those contacts enter the program?

Programs can look for changes to your database profile data and react by starting an entrance cycle outside of the normal cycle.

List imports and program entrance:

  1. Use a query as your contact source that contains criteria for qualifying contacts. It can include the "is/is not" in Contact List criteria.
  2. Set your program entrance criteria to Continuously while the program is active.

If the program meets your criteria, the program initiates and runs outside of the normal program entry cycle to enter the new contacts. For list imports, a program evaluates and enters contacts whose records are modified since the last import to ensure that qualifying contacts enter as soon as possible. List imports can trigger a program to check for new contacts outside of regular daily processing.

Note:

Regarding import update API calls and programs, when a new contact opts into a program, manual adds are included in the database for the program behavior criteria When a new contact opts-in to the contact source associated with this program.

This article is intended as a guideline for understanding programs performance. There are many factors including the size of the database, complexity of the query, and current system queues. However, if the user sees that the entry is taking an inordinate amount of time, contact IBM® Support.

If you manually add a contact to the database, this criteria is met and the contact is added to the program when any other present criteria is met.
